A handsome 30-year-old gay Brit returns from over 10 years in the US, where he became an award-winning fashion designer with a top fashion house. Scott Farrell has left behind his lover, a famous porn star, to spend Christmas with his lesbian friends in dear old Plymouth, a place that will never, ever, be the same! Scott meets a slightly younger guy, which results in a relationship that a certain evil racist does not approve of. He tells Scott, in more ways than one, to "get out of town or else" after a new-found friend, an Indian lady, and her cat, die mysteriously. But that's only the beginning of Scott's troubles. 1. I make this trip every year, driving across the country to see my sister and her family, but I never figured this year would be so crazy. After picking up a hitchhiker we stop over in a motel one night and land on the subject of sex. I'm amazed to discover he's never done it! We get talking and I wind up showing him the intimate parts of a lady that he's never seen before. But soon I want more than just a look, and things unfold in a glorious, naughty fashion that sees him plant himself deep inside me. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Leigh Greene. Her name is synonymous with elegance, style, and grace. Over the course of her extraordinary life and career, Audrey Hepburn captured hearts around the world and created a public image that stands as one of the most recognizable and beloved in recent memory. But despite her international fame and her tireless efforts on behalf of UNICEF, Audrey was also known for her intense privacy. With unprecedented access to studio archives, friends, and colleagues who knew and loved her, best-selling author Donald Spoto provides an intimate and moving account of this beautiful, elusive, and talented woman. Tracing her astonishing rise to stardom, from her harrowing childhood in Nazi-controlled Holland during World War II to her years as a struggling ballet dancer in London and her Tony Award-winning Broadway debut in Gigi, Spoto illuminates the origins of Audrey's tenacious spirit and fiercely passionate nature. She would go on to star in some of the most popular movies of the 20th century, including Roman Holiday, Sabrina, Funny Face, The Nun's Story, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and My Fair Lady. A friend and inspiration to renowned designer Hubert de Givenchy, Audrey emerged as a fashion icon as well as a film legend. Her influence on women's fashion is unparalleled to this day. But behind the glamorous public persona, Audrey Hepburn was both a different and a deeper person, and a woman who craved love and affection. Donald Spoto offers remarkable insights into her professional and personal relationships with her two husbands and with such celebrities as Gregory Peck, William Holden, Fred Astaire, Gary Cooper, Robert Anderson, Cary Grant, Peter O'Toole, Albert Finney, and Ben Gazzara. 1. Powder and Patch was first published in 1923 under the title of The Transformation of Philip Jettan and later republished as Powder and Patch, but without the final chapter which was included on the original title. The story takes place in the 18th century, where fashion was very much a la mode, with silks, stains, and powdered wigs. Philip Jettan, a handsome and sturdy youth, is rejected by the lady of his dreams, Cleone Charteris, because he is not foppish enough. Encouraged by his uncle, Philip decides to go to Paris in order to learn the ways of a stylish gentleman. On his return, however, Philip wonders whether Cleone prefers him as he is - or as he was. Cleone in her turn, wonders whether Philip has really changed or whether he is putting on a front. The resulting battle of wills is brought to a humourous and engaging climax, with mistakes being made by both parties. Powder and Patch was written by Georgette Heyer, an English novelist, who began writing in her early 20s and has written over 50 novels in the romance and detective genres. 1. Language: English. EXCERPT: The death of Mrs. Bates, a very old lady whose hearing had long since gone and who had spent her last few months either in her bedroom or sitting in her chair in the parlor, would have gone unremarked in London, where people spent their time discussing fashion, nobility, and the latest offering at the theatre. In Bath, her decease might have been mentioned as a piece of dull news, before the residents and visitors resumed discussing who had been seen at the Pump Room during the day or who was giving a whist party that night. In Highbury, however, Mrs. Bates’s passing was an event which was talked over in every house, both great and small. Jane Austen's Emma has been described as a detective story without a body - except for those who read carefully, there actually is a body, and the potential for an excellent mystery story. Set about a year after Emma closes, The Highbury Murders pays homage to the wit of Jane Austen and the whodunits of Agatha Christie. You do not need to have read Jane Austen's books to enjoy this novel, but if you have - if you regret that she wrote only six - The Highbury Murders is a welcome extension to her world. Pour yourself a cup of tea, settle somewhere comfortable, and indulge yourself with the proverbial good read. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Erin Evans-Walker.
